In the News
ANCHORAGE, AK — November 1, 2021 — Credit Union 1 opened a new location near the Dimond Center Mall today that is a far cry from anyone’s vision of a traditional, old school bank.
The local credit union's new Financial Center South features a sleek layout, comfortable conversation-based service, and it does away with teller lines.
“Looking to the future, our purpose is to make better lives for our Alaskan members by helping them achieve financial sustainability and growth. That was the impetus behind this building,” said James Wileman, President and CEO of Credit Union 1. “Our new location provides the technology and comfort for members to easily manage financial transactions without stress or confusion, and it also creates space and ability for tackling one’s bigger financial goals.”
Central to the model of Financial Center South are its virtual teller machines, where members can independently complete their routine branch transactions. Local, virtual employees are available via a tap of the screen, should a user need assistance. These machines free up in-branch employees for non-routine service, to personally consult on questions or be readily available to facilitate more complex financial arrangements.
“We want people to come here when they need to easily cross off their to-dos – and also when they’re dreaming big and need personal insight,” said Anna Phommalinh, manager of Financial Center South. “Our service goal is to make our employees available to sit down and talk through financial questions with you, rather than serve you as quickly as possible and send you on your way. For those quick to-dos, our members don’t need to wait – they can self-service at a virtual teller machine.”
With no space needed for standing in line, the Financial Center South includes a coffee lounge, multiple advisory suites and open concept consultation areas that are made for conversation.
“We invite the broader Anchorage community to come see the new space,” said Brooke Johnson, Credit Union 1 Vice President of Operations. “Bring your questions, dreams, and an openness to a new way of banking. We’ll be glad to show you around, and we think you’ll be happy with the experience.”
Credit Union 1’s Financial Center South is located at 8935 Old Seward Hwy, near Texas Roadhouse, and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
