At Credit Union 1, we understand that sometimes you may not have enough funds in your account to cover a transaction. To help you avoid costly or damaging alternatives, we offer Overdraft Transfer and Courtesy Pay to our members.
Before you find yourself in need, we want to make sure you understand the differences between Overdraft Transfer and Courtesy Pay, as alternatives to a declined transaction.
Overdraft Transfer is a helpful service that links your spending account to a credit card or savings account while Courtesy Pay is a feature that allows you to access emergency funds through an overdraft, and overdraft fees apply. Learn more below.
Overdraft Transfer
Overdraft Transfer is a service that links your spending account to a CU1 credit card or savings account. If an overdraft occurs, the funds will be automatically transferred from your linked account. Overdraft Transfers from a credit card are fee-free, but interest will accrue per the terms of your credit card. Overdraft Transfers from savings cost a $5 service fee.
Courtesy Pay
Courtesy Pay allows you to access emergency funds to a set limit through an overdraft, and overdraft fees apply. With Courtesy Pay on your account, CU1 may authorize and pay overdrafts for checks, automatic bill payments, and ACH transactions. It's important to note that Credit Union 1 pays overdrafts at our discretion.
Courtesy Pay Fees
Per our Member Service Agreement, we will charge you a fee each time we pay an overdraft on your behalf. These fees vary based on the amount of the overdraft and range from $5.00 to $22.00. You can find more details about our fees on our fee schedule page here.
Please keep in mind that there is no limit to the total fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account. It is required that all overdrawn accounts be paid within a 30-day period and remain in a positive balance for 24 hours before overdrawing the account again.
